Add Baking Soda When You Cook Eggs-The Reason Is Genius!

You’ve probably noticed that some eggs peel easier than others, even though they come from the same package, right? This is because eggs old between 7 and 10 days are the easiest to peel, whereas fresher ones make the peeling process less easy.

In order to prevent this from happening, you should put a tsp of baking soda to the boiling water. Fresh eggs are not as alkaline as older ones and their peel is difficult to remove. But, don’t worry, baking soda will increase the alkalinity and thus, you will have no problem peeling the shell.

  • In order to know how old the eggs you’ve bought are, put them in water and if they sink on the side, this means that they’re fresh, whereas if they stand vertically, they’re older and perfect for boiling. Those eggs that rise up to the surface are the oldest.
  • In order to prevent the eggs from cracking, heat them before you put them in hot water. Either leave them at room temperature for a bit or hold them under hot tap water for couple of minutes.
  • For hard boiled eggs, put them in cold water and then put them to boil.
  • If you want a softer yolk, dip the eggs in hot water with the help of a spoon around 3 minutes.
  • When you boil the eggs, make sure that they’re completely covered with water; otherwise, they won’t cook evenly. It’s also important to mention that prolonged boiling will change the color of the yolk into greenish and the egg white will have a texture similar to a gum.
  • When the eggs have boiled, put them in cold water to ease the peeling process.
