Turmeric Spices Found Heavily Contaminated With Toxic Lead (see list here)

The official FDA has finally done something for our wellbeing and has taken bold enforcement action on the subject.

Gel Spice and JM Exotic Food are some of the manufacturers that have been forced to issue “voluntary” recalls of their turmeric products because of the dangerous levels of toxins found in their spices.

A lot of people who regularly consume turmeric are not aware that they are eating high amounts of this harmful metal, which is associated with bone disorders, heart and brain damage.

This metal is common in turmeric powders and turmeric products, because turmeric is usually grown in high-lead soil in India and then imported into America.

“Lead can accumulate in the body over time. Too much can cause health problems, including delayed mental and physical development and learning deficiencies. Pregnant women, infants, and young children especially should avoid exposure to lead. People concerned about blood lead levels should contact their physician or health clinic to ask about testing”– warns the FDA recall page.

The FDA investigates the manufacturers of food and supplements across America, visit their facilities and take samples of the products. They are doing this in order to review them through ICP-OES or ICP-MS. But, the FDA still refuses to tell how much lead is needed to trigger a recall.

Even 6 of the popular turmeric brands recalleddue to lead contamination. So far, no one has reported injuries or illnesses because of the high lead amounts in turmeric, but Gel Spice, Inc., is now taking measures in advance to prevent something dangerous from happening.

Here is the list that includes the products which have been recalled by the FDA because of potential lead contamination:
